I will share insights into what makes the top practitioners of today tick, asking about their favourite PE resources, what activities are a must have in the locker for any teacher and success stories about WHAT REALLY WORKS! Today, I bring you yet another magnificent team game, ideal for both KS1 and KS2 aged children.  Inspired by my time coaching at UKElite soccer, I have adapted this football activity and created a variation non sport specific that can be played as a result of a unit of work, or just as easily as a one off competition.  This game is HERO WARS!  Although the game centres around a 'tag' focus, there really are so many learning outcomes and discussion points that can be raised from playing it and strong links with traditional sports can be made.  All of this and more is discussed 'Under the Umbrella' today so come and join me to listen, and head over to www.peumbrella.com to download the FREE PDF so you can start playing this awesome game with your class NOW!

In this Episode of The PE Umbrella Podcast, I reflect on my teaching and whether or not it is promoting 'Learned Helplessness' amongst the children I work with.

Having recently read 'essentialism' by Greg McKeown, I was intrigued by the term 'learned helplessness' and actually, how prevalent it is, not only in education, but every day life.

I explore the meaning behind the term, how it relates closely to education and PE, and share ways in which we can ensure we are doing all that we can to stop our children taking the path of the 'I can't do it culture'.

So what are you waiting for? Come and join me 'Under the Umbrella'

Today, I share with you a resource that is not only what I believe ALL primary PE cupboards should have, but also one of the most under utilised by the schools that currently do have them!  The equipment in question is a SPEED LADDER.  They are a real hook to your lessons and give the children the opportunity to challenge themselves in Speed, Agility and Quickness (SAQ) challenges.  With uses in KS1 and KS2, come and see how you can dust them off this week to start your lessons with a bang.  Fear not if your school doesn't have any, I provide you with an alternative that you can all access.  So what are you waiting for?  Come and join me 'Under the Umbrella' to grab your FREE downloadable PDF and put it into action yourself!
