Ryan Ellis here, the founder and host of the PE Umbrella, a Primary Physical Education podcast that discusses all things PE. Interviewing inspiring practitioners from the education sector, I will be sharing the latest in excellent practice and discussing what makes PE, physical activity and sport such an important tool to engage and enhance the learning of children (across the curriculum) so they are ready to leave school with a solid platform to lead a healthy lifestyle and enjoy lifelong physical activity! I will share insights into what makes the top practitioners of today tick, asking about their favourite PE resources, what activities are a must-have in the locker for any teacher and success stories about WHAT REALLY WORKS! All in all, the PE Umbrella is about inspiring YOU in YOUR teaching practice and providing you with the tools, ideas and resources to take action! So what are you waiting for? Welcome to episode 77 of The PE Umbrella podcast! This week I bring you a wonderful resource episode and share with you a game born out of a recent activity camp I worked on...Ellis Ball! Inspired by Joey Feith on his recent appearance on the show, and mentions of 'Calvin Ball', a game with rules that are essentially made up as you go along, I thought I'd give the concept a go myself and the results were awesome! Ellis Ball was born and plenty of fun was had! So if you're approaching your Summer units and want to kick off your striking and fielding unit with a BANG, give this a go! You won't be disappointed. To assist you in your listening, head over to www.peumbrella.com and pick up the FREE accompanying PDF of Ellis Ball. So what are you waiting for? Come on over, and join me under The PE Umbrella!

Welcome to episode 76 of The PE Umbrella podcast! This week I embark on another reflection episode, mulling over a recent student essay that I read, suggesting that PE shouldn't be mandatory. I share my own opinions on why PE absolutely should be mandatory and challenge some of the 'negative' perceptions that the author has on the subject that I and many others love so much! Be sure to tweet me your thoughts @ryansporting or email me ryanellis.peumbrella@gmail.com. I look forward to hearing what you have got to say! So come on over, and join me under The PE Umbrella!

Welcome to episode 75 of The PE Umbrella podcast! Joining me Under the Umbrella today is Physical Education teacher from here in the UK, Kate Tiffen. As a teacher of 17 years, Kate has experienced working on both sides of the fence, both in State schools and Independent school, where she currently teaches. As the first Independent school PhysEd teacher I have had on the show, I was keen to find out 'How the other half live' and if the PhysEd side of things is all it's cracked up to be. During the episode I probe Kate about the value placed on PE as a subject in both sectors and what core differences she sees between the two. Do both provide a high quality Physical Education? Is the curriculum coverage the same? Is Independent PhysEd the pinnacle, or is there still more to be done? All of this as well as the show favourites are discussed during todays show, so come on over, and join us under The PE Umbrella!
