Ryan Ellis here, the founder and host of the PE Umbrella, a Primary Physical Education podcast that discusses all things PE. Interviewing inspiring practitioners from the education sector, I will be sharing the latest in excellent practice and discussing what makes PE, physical activity and sport such an important tool to engage and enhance the learning of children (across the curriculum) so they are ready to leave school with a solid platform to lead a healthy lifestyle and enjoy lifelong physical activity! I will share insights into what makes the top practitioners of today tick, asking about their favourite PE resources, what activities are a must-have in the locker for any teacher and success stories about WHAT REALLY WORKS! All in all, the PE Umbrella is about inspiring YOU in YOUR teaching practice and providing you with the tools, ideas and resources to take action! So what are you waiting for? Welcome to episode 85 of The PE Umbrella podcast! This week I am delighted to bring you a new game creation of my own, made up using a combination of wonderful existing games. I have always found it pretty hard to 'completely' switch off from 'work mode' and during my recent 3 week holiday, I had the urge to create a new game ready for my return to the Holiday Camps that we run at Sporting Influence. As such, 'Yoda Rescue' or 'Capture the Yoda' was born! I have trialled this game out several times now on my return to the activity camps, tweaking it as I go and in this episode I bring you the most successful version to date. Taking you through step by step, I explain how to set the game up, how to introduce the rules and which progressions to add. To assist you in your listening, head over to www.peumbrella.com and pick up the FREE accompanying PDF of Yoda Rescue. Simply find it on the podcasts page or type 'Yoda' into the search bar and the episode will pop right up.

So what are you waiting for? Come on over, and join me under The PE Umbrella!

Welcome to episode 84 of The PE Umbrella podcast! Joining me Under the Umbrella this week are two exceptional practitioners in their field, Bryn Llewellyn, former teacher, deputy head and acting headteacher and now the founder of Tagtiv8 and also Andy Daly-Smith, a senior lecturer at Leeds Beckett University with a particular focus on physical activity and behaviour science in young children. This episode has a key focus on Physically Active Learning as we share opinions, research and tips on how we can endeavour to make this common practice in our schools. Topics discussed include: - What do we mean by Active Learning (AL), What does it actually look like? - Why is AL important from a physical perspective? - What are the wider benefits of AL? Why should teachers bother? - How does Tagtiv8 provide a pathway to achieving this? - What impact are we seeing from Tagtiv8 and other studies? - What does the wider research into AL say, both in the UK and around the world? - What are the current barriers to AL in our Schools? Can we overcome them? So what are you waiting for? Come on over and join us Under the Umbrella for some in depth Active Learning chatter and advice!
