Interviewing inspiring practitioners from the education sector, I will be sharing the latest in excellent practice and discussing what makes PE, physical activity and sport such an important tool to engage and enhance the learning of children (across the curriculum) so they are ready to leave school with a solid platform to lead a healthy lifestyle and enjoy lifelong physical activity! I will share insights into what makes the top practitioners of today tick, asking about their favourite PE resources, what activities are a must-have in the locker for any teacher and success stories about WHAT REALLY WORKS! Welcome to episode 165 of The PE Umbrella Podcast!

This week I am joined by Primary PE teacher at a SEND school Evelyn Roberts. Evelyn was born with Cerebral Palsy, a condition that impacts her muscles, in particular making it difficult for her to walk. In this episode, Evelyn takes us on a journey through her negative childhood experiences of PE into ultimately playing professional sport and now teaching PE herself. She opens up about her struggles and successes and ultimately how her condition positively impacts on all of the students she teaches. Not only were my eyes opened further, but I was truly inspired.

As well as that, we also take a trip down the regular show questions, seeking to draw out knowledge bombs from Evelyn, particularly centred around her role working in a SEND school. This means you can expect answers to questions such as:

- What currently excites you about PE?

- What misconceptions about our subject should be banished to room 101?

- What is your ideal PE lesson recipe?

- What is your worst ever PE lesson and what did you learn from it?

So what are you waiting for? Jump under the umbrella with us and join in the conversation by tweeting me @thepeumbrella. Note pad ready!

Welcome to episode 163 of The PE Umbrella Podcast!

This week I am joined by Early Childhood Movement consultant Helen Battelley.

On this episode, we chat about ALL things PE, movement and music in the early years setting and beyond. There is no doubting the importance of 'getting it right' in the early years in order to cement positive attitudes mentally towards Physical Activity and prepare the body physically for a life long love of movement.

During this episode, we talk about WHY it is so critical to get it right in EYFS and the potential consequences if we do not. Helen then tells us what we CAN DO to make sure we do get it right and throws so many knowledge bombs you can take away that you'll probably have to listen to the episode twice! We dive into lots of rabbit holes of interesting discussion backed by research and I'm certain there's plenty for you to think about no matter the age group you teach!

So what are you waiting for? Jump under the umbrella with us and join in the conversation by tweeting me @thepeumbrella. Note pad ready!
